Well, since it's almost been 30 years ago, guess I better log one of my most precious memories ever, the birth of my first born child!
Tammy was born November 29, 1980 (wow, that seems so long ago), at 10:00 P.M.. She weighed 6#11Oz. and was 21" long.
This was the friday after thanksgiving and I decided to go shopping for the day. Mike was home, we lived in Farmington, NM at the time.
I had a nagging backache most of day, but nothing that really caught my attention. I just figured that I had walked too much all day.
I went home that evening and we were supposed to go to a friends house that night for supper and to play cards. I sat down on Mike's lap and told him I thought we should probably cancel cause we might be having a baby that night.
He just kinda laughed it off, but I told him I did not think we should go because they lived about 20 miles away and I did not want to go out there and have to turn around and come back to town. At this time, my contractions were so irregular and light that he told me it was prob just false labor.
So, we drove to town to grab a bite to eat. We lived about 6 miles out. When we got to town, I was not hungry (and knew I had better not eat at this point), so Mike went thru the drive at a burger place and got him a hamburger. We started driving around and he took a bite of his burger and threw it out the window (I know, litterbug) and said he could not eat anything.
We drove to the hospital and just sat in the parking lot. LOL. Don't know the reason for that, too many years ago, but he asked if we wanted to go on to the house or what and I told him since we were actually sitting in the parking lot, we might as well go in and have them check me to see if I really was in labor. Remember, I was still not having any painful or regular contractions at this point.
So, we went in (having already pre-registered) and went to the OB ward and they told me they would put me in a room and check me and then call the doctor.
Well, the nurse came in and told me I was already dialated to an 8!! She said she would call the doc, then come back to get some info from me.
This is where Mike lost his brain function. The nurse asked him his name and he did not know it. I had to tell her. He could not remember anything, so I gave her all the info and answered all her questions.
This was at 8:00 P.M. that night. The doctor arrived at the hospital, and then Tammy was born at 10:00 P.M., just 2 hours after we got to the hospital. She was 2 weeks early.
After she was born, we called my mom and dad and wished them a Happy Anniversary. I told them I was sorry we had called so late, but we got sidetracked and was busy that night. Then I said "Happy Anniversary Grandma and Grandpa" and they knew she had been born on their anniversary. Then we called Mike's parents and rest of the family. We were the only ones there for her birth, cause almost everyone lived in Coleman, Texas at that time and for the few that did live in Farmington, well, there was just not time to call them to get there, it happened way too fast.
Anyway, that night, Teresa came up to the hospital and we met Marty for the first time. I am sure I made quite an impression on him! LOL. After all, I had just had a baby! Thanks for that Teresa~~ (still love ya though).
Anyway, that is the birth of my firstborn blonde haired beauty~ Love ya bunches, sweet Tammy Linnae Curry Withers~~
